Post COVID impact on food stamps

I am a financial supporter of the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland.  I also try to stay informed about the needs of our community, especially those who are food insecure. Here is a recent article about the impact of a reduction of food stamps being allocated effective Mar, 2023.      https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/01/cuyahoga-county-will-lose-23-million-in-monthly-snap-benefits-in-march-when-federal-program-ends.html I know many in Cuyahoga County are still struggling financially post COVID.  This reduction in food stamps will put an additional strain on the Hunger Network and also the Cleveland Food Bank. While the holidays and the end of the year are traditional times to give donations to our local places of worship and some charities close to our hearts, I encourage you to give a donation to the Hunger Network.  Even if it's a 1 time $25 gift, the funds do go the distance.  OR, if your place of employment is able to host a food drive, there ...

Reverse Advent Calendar

Different Christian traditions occur during the time leading up to Christmas.   Whether you formally celebrate Advent or not, I challenge you to join me in this endeavor of considering others first.   1 format is to set aside a non perishable food item each day and give the basket of food to a local pantry.   Another format is to go through items you no longer need or no longer use.   A suggestion…leave a bag by the door closest to your garage, fill it daily with things you no longer need or use.   It doesn’t have to be food, though clearing out a food pantry is certainly an option.   Do you have clothes you haven’t worn in the last year?   As the bag fills with items, stop by Savers or Goodwill on your way to work to drop it off.   Even if it’s a single bag to donate, it’s going to a worthy cause. It doesn’t have to be just donations either.   Do you have clutter that has been sitting collecting dust?   Do you have a pile of things ...

Appraisals & Inspections

I'm an investor myself and I manage properties for 20+ owners.  The opportunity to buy a property, collect rent, and see long term growth of value appreciation is an exilerating experience. But buying a real estate investment requires due diligence.  I realize there are many investors who pay cash outright for their purchases.  As much as a lender requires an appraisal for their own benefit, I can't stress enough how getting an appraisal can only help a cash buyer as well. An appraisal factors in property condition and considers the subject property with respect to other similar properties that sold in the area recently.  There's nothing worse than over paying for a property.  As much as there's an expense to get an appraisal, it's worth it for a better understanding of what you're buying.  While rents are increasing, there is still a ceiling.  An appraisal can be your best friend in negotiating price.  BUT!!  It can also be your best fri...
