Cleveland Resident 1st Initiative timeline

For 2024, the rental registration process is slightly different to accommodate the new rollout of this program.  Normally, the rental registration is due on or before Mar 1.  Full disclosure, the info I'm writing here is for 2024.  As of the posting of this post, I do not have the timeline info for 2025 other than I'm assuming the "compliance items" will be due at time of rental registration where as in 2024, there is an extra 3 months to allow for compliance. Due May 31, 2024: owner designated Local Agent In Charge (LAIC).  For owners outside of Cuyahoga or contiguous county, the LAIC will reside in Cuyahoga County is required.  The local agent can be held liable for any violations in place of the owner if the owner is unable to be located.  A copy of a valid photo ID for both parties will need to be included. "Compliance Items" Due Sept 1, 2024 Lead Safe compliance.  Either a 2 yr or 20 yr certification. Compliant with bills / fees owed to the city V...

Cleveland Kids Book Bank follow up

As a property manager with 125 units under contract, there inevitably is folks who pay late.  Normally it's $50 the 1st day it's late and then $10 ($20 in some cases) per day after.  As a general practice, I set aside these funds as a means to provide goods / donations to various charities including: facebook group individualized care packages for Operation Support and Encouragement USO Ohio (care packages) The City Mission (Laura's Home) (school supplies summer 2024) Toys for Tots (toys and or books Christmas 2024) and now, also Cleveland Kids Book Bank I'm going to be rolling out in the next 6 weeks or so a pilot program.  For tenants who are late, they can waive the late fee by providing gently used kids books in lieu of the cash fee.  There will be a minimum # of books we ask for to justify waiving the $50 fee.  But the idea is to support a great local charity. I reached out to Cleveland Kids Book Bank.  We are being supplied with a bin to accept the bo...

Cleveland (Ohio) Kids Book Bank

My daughter is a Junior in High School.  She recently volunteered at the Cleveland Kids Book Bank with some classmates.  Initially, she was a be hesitant as to what to expect…she’s helped out at a food pantry and at the West Side Catholic Center food services providing hot meals for the needy…so she wasn’t sure what to expect at a book bank. It turns out, they sort thru books based on condition and age group.   The books are then donated to homeless shelters, food pantries, Ronald McDonald House, and similar types of social services organizations. She was SSOOO inspired by the experience that she & I volunteered on Apr 5 th .   And, we plan on volunteering again at the end of the school year, over summer a few times, and again later in the calendar year. We even went shopping prior to our volunteer day at Half Price Books to shop for books we could donate. Here is their website:   https://www.kidsbookbank.org/ D & K Property Management Services K...

Goods Bank (Cleveland, Ohio)

Recently, my daughter & I volunteered at the Cleveland Kids Book Bank (see my other blog for more info about that organizaton. Looking more into their info, it appears there is a "sister" organization:  Goods Bank.  While the Book Bank is more established, Goods Bank has set up as a bonified charity. www.goodsbankneo.org They collect mostly toiletries and personal use items for those in need.  They offer individuals needing the items to schedule a time to pick out items they need.  They also provide the items to churches, pantries, etc in bulk for them to distribute to those in need. In May, I look forward to volunteering a shift or 2 to see in person what they are all about.
